responses through out the semester

After a semester in LAC 101, I have read many posts and commented on them to the best of my ability. I must say that reading other people’s posts and comments was quite humbling. People in this class seem to have a much more elaborate and well written response to the similar topics that I am writing about. However, this has allowed me deepen my understanding of topics that I thought I knew enough about when in reality, I knew just the basics.

I think that reading other people’s posts was helpful in reinforcing the big ideas of what the class was trying to teach. Through out the semester I’ve learned about many people and events and after reading a post about something we learned a while back, I am reminded of the material that I need to know for the final. This portfolio was an excellent way to share ideas and remind each other of the important parts that shaped Latin American culture.

When it comes to my comments (I’m not sure how many I had but more than 14) I am not particularly proud of any of them. I’ve never considered myself a strong writer and after being at Davidson for a year, I realize that my writing ability is far behind the average student here. After taking my required writing 101 class, my writing ability increased very little and my excitement for writing decreased dramatically, making me dread every writing assignment at Davidson. This is a Liberal arts college after all, so this will certainly be an issue for me for the next 3 years, because it seems like every class requires writing (even my Calculus class required a short paper). I just hope that I’ll learn to write more effectively while sounding distinguished like the other students in this class.
